א1 לָמָה יְיָ תַּעֲמֹד בְּרָחוֹק תַּעְלִים לְעִתּוֹת בַּצָּרָֽה׃ lamah Adonai taamod berachok taelim leitot batzarahWhy standest Thou afar off, O HaShem? Why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble? ב2 בְּגַאֲוַת רָשָׁע יִדְלַק עָנִי יִתָּפְשׂוּ ׀ בִּמְזִמּוֹת זוּ חָשָֽׁבוּ׃ begaavat rasha yidlak ani yitafesu ׀ bimezimot zu chashavuThrough the pride of the wicked the poor is hotly pursued, they are taken in the devices that they have imagined. ג3 כִּֽי־הִלֵּל רָשָׁע עַל־תַּאֲוַת נַפְשׁוֹ וּבֹצֵעַ בֵּרֵךְ נִאֵץ ׀ יְהוָֽה׃ ki-hilel rasha al-taavat nafsho uvotzea berekh nietz ׀ AdonaiFor the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and the covetous vaunteth himself, though he contemn HaShem. ד4 רָשָׁע כְּגֹבַהּ אַפּוֹ בַּל־יִדְרֹשׁ אֵין אֱלֹהִים כָּל־מְזִמּוֹתָֽיו׃ rasha kegovah apo bal-yidrosh ein Elohim kal-mezimotayvThe wicked, in the pride of his countenance, saith: 'He will not require'; all his thoughts are: 'There is no G-d.' ה5 יָחִילוּ דרכו ׀ בְּכָל־עֵת מָרוֹם מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ מִנֶּגְדּוֹ כָּל־צוֹרְרָיו יָפִיחַ בָּהֶֽם׃ yachilu drkhv ׀ bekhal-et marom mishpateikha minegedo kal-tzorrayv yaficha bahemHis ways prosper at all times; Thy judgments are far above out of his sight; as for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them. ו6 אָמַר בְּלִבּוֹ בַּל־אֶמּוֹט לְדֹר וָדֹר אֲשֶׁר לֹֽא־בְרָֽע׃ amar belibo bal-emot ledor vador asher lo-veraHe saith in his heart: 'I shall not be moved, I who to all generations shall not be in adversity.' ז7 אָלָה פִּיהוּ מָלֵא וּמִרְמוֹת וָתֹךְ תַּחַת לְשׁוֹנוֹ עָמָל וָאָֽוֶן׃ alah pihu male umirmot vatokh tachat leshono amal vaavenHis mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is mischief and iniquity. ח8 יֵשֵׁב ׀ בְּמַאְרַב חֲצֵרִים בַּֽמִּסְתָּרִים יַהֲרֹג נָקִי עֵינָיו לְֽחֵלְכָה יִצְפֹּֽנוּ׃ yeshev ׀ bemarav chatzerim bamisetarim yaharog naki einayv lechelkhah yitzponuHe sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages; in secret places doth he slay the innocent; his eyes are on the watch for the helpless. ט9 יֶאֱרֹב בַּמִּסְתָּר ׀ כְּאַרְיֵה בְסֻכֹּה יֶאֱרֹב לַחֲטוֹף עָנִי יַחְטֹף עָנִי בְּמָשְׁכוֹ בְרִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃ yeerov bamisetar ׀ kearyeh vesukoh yeerov lachatof ani yachtof ani bemashkho verishtoHe lieth in wait in a secret place as a lion in his lair, he lieth in wait to catch the poor; he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him up in his net. י10 ודכה יָשֹׁחַ וְנָפַל בַּעֲצוּמָיו חלכאים׃ vdkhh yashocha venafal baatzumayv chlkhymHe croucheth, he boweth down, and the helpless fall into his mighty claws. יא11 אָמַר בְּלִבּוֹ שָׁכַֽח אֵל הִסְתִּיר פָּנָיו בַּל־רָאָה לָנֶֽצַח׃ amar belibo shakhach el histir panayv bal-raah lanetzachHe hath said in his heart: 'G-d hath forgotten; He hideth His face; He will never see.' יב12 קוּמָה יְיָ אֵל נְשָׂא יָדֶךָ אַל־תִּשְׁכַּח עניים׃ kumah Adonai el nesa yadekha al-tishekach nyymArise, O HaShem; O G-d, lift up Thy hand; forget not the humble. יג13 עַל־מֶה ׀ נִאֵץ רָשָׁע ׀ אֱלֹהִים אָמַר בְּלִבּוֹ לֹא תִּדְרֹֽשׁ׃ al-meh ׀ nietz rasha ׀ Elohim amar belibo lo tideroshWherefore doth the wicked contemn G-d, and say in his heart: 'Thou wilt not require'? יד14 רָאִתָה כִּֽי־אַתָּה ׀ עָמָל וָכַעַס ׀ תַּבִּיט לָתֵת בְּיָדֶךָ עָלֶיךָ יַעֲזֹב חֵלֶכָה יָתוֹם אַתָּה ׀ הָיִיתָ עוֹזֵֽר׃ raitah ki-atah ׀ amal vakhaas ׀ tabit latet beyadekha aleikha yaazov chelekhah yatom atah ׀ hayita ozerThou hast seen; for Thou beholdest trouble and vexation, to requite them with Thy hand; unto Thee the helpless committeth himself; Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless. טו15 שְׁבֹר זְרוֹעַ רָשָׁע וָרָע תִּֽדְרוֹשׁ־רִשְׁעוֹ בַל־תִּמְצָֽא׃ shevor zeroa rasha vara tiderosh-risho val-timetzaBreak Thou the arm of the wicked; and as for the evil man, search out his wickedness, till none be found. טז16 יְיָ מֶלֶךְ עוֹלָם וָעֶד אָבְדוּ גוֹיִם מֵֽאַרְצֽוֹ׃ Adonai melekh olam vaed avdu goyim meartzoHaShem is King for ever and ever; the nations are perished out of His land. יז17 תַּאֲוַת עֲנָוִים שָׁמַעְתָּ יְיָ תָּכִין לִבָּם תַּקְשִׁיב אָזְנֶֽךָ׃ taavat anavim shamata Adonai takhin libam takeshiv aznekhaHaShem, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt direct their heart, Thou wilt cause Thine ear to attend; יח18 לִשְׁפֹּט יָתוֹם וָדָךְ בַּל־יוֹסִיף עוֹד לַעֲרֹץ אֱנוֹשׁ מִן־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ lishpot yatom vadakh bal-yosif od laarotz enosh min-haaretzTo right the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may be terrible no more.
