א1 מִזְמוֹר לְאָסָף אַךְ טוֹב לְיִשְׂרָאֵל אֱלֹהִים לְבָרֵי לֵבָֽב׃ mizmor leasaf akh tov leyisrael Elohim levarei levavA Psalm of Asaph. Surely G-d is good to Israel, even to such as are pure in heart. ב2 וַאֲנִי כִּמְעַט נטוי רַגְלָי כְּאַיִן שפכה אֲשֻׁרָֽי׃ vaani kimeat ntvy raglay keayin shfkhh ashurayBut as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. ג3 כִּֽי־קִנֵּאתִי בַּֽהוֹלְלִים שְׁלוֹם רְשָׁעִים אֶרְאֶֽה׃ ki-kineti bahollim shelom reshaim erehFor I was envious at the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ד4 כִּי אֵין חַרְצֻבּוֹת לְמוֹתָם וּבָרִיא אוּלָֽם׃ ki ein chartzubot lemotam uvari ulamFor there are no pangs at their death, and their body is sound. ה5 בַּעֲמַל אֱנוֹשׁ אֵינֵמוֹ וְעִם־אָדָם לֹא יְנֻגָּֽעוּ׃ baamal enosh einemo veim-adam lo yenugauIn the trouble of man they are not; neither are they plagued like men. ו6 לָכֵן עֲנָקַתְמוֹ גַאֲוָה יַעֲטָף־שִׁית חָמָס לָֽמוֹ׃ lakhen anakatmo gaavah yaataf-shit chamas lamoTherefore pride is as a chain about their neck; violence covereth them as a garment. ז7 יָצָא מֵחֵלֶב עֵינֵמוֹ עָבְרוּ מַשְׂכִּיּוֹת לֵבָֽב׃ yatza mechelev einemo avru maskiyot levavTheir eyes stand forth from fatness; they are gone beyond the imaginations of their heart. ח8 יָמִיקוּ ׀ וִידַבְּרוּ בְרָע עֹשֶׁק מִמָּרוֹם יְדַבֵּֽרוּ׃ yamiku ׀ vidabru vera oshek mimarom yedaberuThey scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression; they speak as if there were none on high. ט9 שַׁתּוּ בַשָּׁמַיִם פִּיהֶם וּלְשׁוֹנָם תִּֽהֲלַךְ בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ shatu vashamayim pihem ulshonam tihalakh baaretzThey have set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. י10 לָכֵן ׀ ישיב עַמּוֹ הֲלֹם וּמֵי מָלֵא יִמָּצוּ לָֽמוֹ׃ lakhen ׀ yshyv amo halom umei male yimatzu lamoTherefore His people return hither; and waters of fullness are drained out by them. יא11 וְֽאָמְרוּ אֵיכָה יָדַֽע־אֵל וְיֵשׁ דֵּעָה בְעֶלְיֽוֹן׃ veamru eikhah yada-el veyesh deah veelyonAnd they say: 'How doth G-d know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?' יב12 הִנֵּה־אֵלֶּה רְשָׁעִים וְשַׁלְוֵי עוֹלָם הִשְׂגּוּ־חָֽיִל׃ hineh-eleh reshaim veshalvei olam hisgu-chayilBehold, such are the wicked; and they that are always at ease increase riches. יג13 אַךְ־רִיק זִכִּיתִי לְבָבִי וָאֶרְחַץ בְּנִקָּיוֹן כַּפָּֽי׃ akh-rik zikiti levavi vaerchatz benikayon kapaySurely in vain have I cleansed my heart, and washed my hands in innocency; יד14 וָאֱהִי נָגוּעַ כָּל־הַיּוֹם וְתוֹכַחְתִּי לַבְּקָרִֽים׃ vaehi nagua kal-hayom vetokhachti labkarimFor all the day have I been plagued, and my chastisement came every morning. טו15 אִם־אָמַרְתִּי אֲסַפְּרָה כְמוֹ הִנֵּה דוֹר בָּנֶיךָ בָגָֽדְתִּי׃ im-amarti asaprah khemo hineh dor baneikha vagadtiIf I had said: 'I will speak thus', behold, I had been faithless to the generation of Thy children. טז16 וָֽאֲחַשְּׁבָה לָדַעַת זֹאת עָמָל היא בְעֵינָֽי׃ vaachashvah ladaat zot amal hy veeinayAnd when I pondered how I might know this, it was wearisome in mine eyes; יז17 עַד־אָבוֹא אֶל־מִקְדְּשֵׁי־אֵל אָבִינָה לְאַחֲרִיתָֽם׃ ad-avo el-mikdshei-el avinah leacharitamUntil I entered into the sanctuary of G-d, and considered their end. יח18 אַךְ בַּחֲלָקוֹת תָּשִׁית לָמוֹ הִפַּלְתָּם לְמַשּׁוּאֽוֹת׃ akh bachalakot tashit lamo hipaletam lemashuotSurely Thou settest them in slippery places; Thou hurlest them down to utter ruin. יט19 אֵיךְ הָיוּ לְשַׁמָּה כְרָגַע סָפוּ תַמּוּ מִן־בַּלָּהֽוֹת׃ eikh hayu leshamah kheraga safu tamu min-balahotHow are they become a desolation in a moment! They are wholly consumed by terrors. כ20 כַּחֲלוֹם מֵהָקִיץ אֲדֹנָי בָּעִיר ׀ צַלְמָם תִּבְזֶֽה׃ kachalom mehakitz Adonai bair ׀ tzalmam tivezehAs a dream when one awaketh, so, O L-rd, when Thou arousest Thyself, Thou wilt despise their semblance. כא21 כִּי יִתְחַמֵּץ לְבָבִי וְכִלְיוֹתַי אֶשְׁתּוֹנָֽן׃ ki yitchametz levavi vekhilyotay eshtonanFor my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins. כב22 וַאֲנִי־בַעַר וְלֹא אֵדָע בְּהֵמוֹת הָיִיתִי עִמָּֽךְ׃ vaani-vaar velo eda behemot hayiti imakheBut I was brutish, and ignorant; I was as a beast before Thee. כג23 וַאֲנִי תָמִיד עִמָּךְ אָחַזְתָּ בְּיַד־יְמִינִֽי׃ vaani tamid imakhe achazta beyad-yeminiNevertheless I am continually with Thee; Thou holdest my right hand. כד24 בַּעֲצָתְךָ תַנְחֵנִי וְאַחַר כָּבוֹד תִּקָּחֵֽנִי׃ baatzatkha tancheni veachar kavod tikacheniThou wilt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me with glory. כה25 מִי־לִי בַשָּׁמָיִם וְעִמְּךָ לֹא־חָפַצְתִּי בָאָֽרֶץ׃ mi-li vashamayim veimkha lo-chafatzti vaaretzWhom have I in heaven but Thee? And beside Thee I desire none upon earth. כו26 כָּלָה שְׁאֵרִי וּלְבָבִי צוּר־לְבָבִי וְחֶלְקִי אֱלֹהִים לְעוֹלָֽם׃ kalah sheeri ulvavi tzur-levavi vechelki Elohim leolamMy flesh and my heart faileth; but G-d is the rock of my heart and my portion for ever. כז27 כִּֽי־הִנֵּה רְחֵקֶיךָ יֹאבֵדוּ הִצְמַתָּה כָּל־זוֹנֶה מִמֶּֽךָּ׃ ki-hineh rechekeikha yovedu hitzmatah kal-zoneh mimekaFor, lo, they that go far from Thee shall perish; Thou dost destroy all them that go astray from Thee. כח28 וַאֲנִי ׀ קִֽרֲבַת אֱלֹהִים לִי־טוֹב שַׁתִּי ׀ בַּאדֹנָי יְהֹוִה מַחְסִי לְסַפֵּר כָּל־מַלְאֲכוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ vaani ׀ kiravat Elohim li-tov shati ׀ badonay Adonai machsi lesaper kal-malakhoteikhaBut as for me, the nearness of G-d is my good; I have made the L-rd GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all Thy works.

א1 מַשְׂכִּיל לְאָסָף לָמָה אֱלֹהִים זָנַחְתָּ לָנֶצַח יֶעְשַׁן אַפְּךָ בְּצֹאן מַרְעִיתֶֽךָ׃ maskil leasaf lamah Elohim zanachta lanetzach yeshan apkha betzon maritekhaMaschil of Asaph. Why, O G-d, hast Thou cast us off for ever? Why doth Thine anger smoke against the flock of Thy pasture? ב2 זְכֹר עֲדָתְךָ ׀ קָנִיתָ קֶּדֶם גָּאַלְתָּ שֵׁבֶט נַחֲלָתֶךָ הַר־צִיּוֹן זֶה ׀ שָׁכַנְתָּ בּֽוֹ׃ zekhor adatkha ׀ kanita kedem gaalta shevet nachalatekha har-tziyon zeh ׀ shakhanta boRemember Thy congregation, which Thou hast gotten of old, which Thou hast redeemed to be the tribe of Thine inheritance; and mount Zion, wherein Thou hast dwelt. ג3 הָרִימָה פְעָמֶיךָ לְמַשֻּׁאוֹת נֶצַח כָּל־הֵרַע אוֹיֵב בַּקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ harimah feameikha lemashuot netzach kal-hera oyev bakodeshLift up Thy steps because of the perpetual ruins, even all the evil that the enemy hath done in the sanctuary. ד4 שָׁאֲגוּ צֹרְרֶיךָ בְּקֶרֶב מוֹעֲדֶךָ שָׂמוּ אוֹתֹתָם אֹתֽוֹת׃ shaagu tzorreikha bekerev moadekha samu ototam ototThine adversaries have roared in the midst of Thy meeting-place; they have set up their own signs for signs. ה5 יִוָּדַע כְּמֵבִיא לְמָעְלָה בִּֽסֲבָךְ־עֵץ קַרְדֻּמּֽוֹת׃ yivada kemevi lemalah bisavakh-etz kardumotIt seemed as when men wield upwards axes in a thicket of trees. ו6 ועת פִּתּוּחֶיהָ יָּחַד בְּכַשִּׁיל וְכֵֽילַפֹּת יַהֲלֹמֽוּן׃ vt pitucheiha yachad bekhashil vekheilapot yahalomunAnd now all the carved work thereof together they strike down with hatchet and hammers. ז7 שִׁלְחוּ בָאֵשׁ מִקְדָּשֶׁךָ לָאָרֶץ חִלְּלוּ מִֽשְׁכַּן־שְׁמֶֽךָ׃ shilchu vaesh mikdashekha laaretz chillu mishkan-shemekhaThey have set Thy sanctuary on fire; they have profaned the dwelling-place of Thy name even to the ground. ח8 אָמְרוּ בְלִבָּם נִינָם יָחַד שָׂרְפוּ כָל־מוֹעֲדֵי־אֵל בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ amru velibam ninam yachad sarfu khal-moadei-el baaretzThey said in their heart: 'Let us make havoc of them altogether'; they have burned up all the meeting-places of G-d in the land. ט9 אֽוֹתֹתֵינוּ לֹא רָאִינוּ אֵֽין־עוֹד נָבִיא וְלֹֽא־אִתָּנוּ יֹדֵעַ עַד־מָֽה׃ ototeinu lo rainu ein-od navi velo-itanu yodea ad-mahWe see not our signs; there is no more any prophet; neither is there among us any that knoweth how long. י10 עַד־מָתַי אֱלֹהִים יְחָרֶף צָר יְנָאֵץ אוֹיֵב שִׁמְךָ לָנֶֽצַח׃ ad-matay Elohim yecharef tzar yenaetz oyev shimkha lanetzachHow long, O G-d, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme Thy name for ever? יא11 לָמָּה תָשִׁיב יָדְךָ וִֽימִינֶךָ מִקֶּרֶב חוקך כַלֵּֽה׃ lamah tashiv yadkha viminekha mikerev chvkkh khalehWhy withdrawest Thou Thy hand, even Thy right hand? Draw it out of Thy bosom and consume them. יב12 וֵאלֹהִים מַלְכִּי מִקֶּדֶם פֹּעֵל יְשׁוּעוֹת בְּקֶרֶב הָאָֽרֶץ׃ velohim malki mikedem poel yeshuot bekerev haaretzYet G-d is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. יג13 אַתָּה פוֹרַרְתָּ בְעָזְּךָ יָם שִׁבַּרְתָּ רָאשֵׁי תַנִּינִים עַל־הַמָּֽיִם׃ atah forarta veazkha yam shibareta rashei taninim al-hamayimThou didst break the sea in pieces by Thy strength; Thou didst shatter the heads of the sea-monsters in the waters. יד14 אַתָּה רִצַּצְתָּ רָאשֵׁי לִוְיָתָן תִּתְּנֶנּוּ מַאֲכָל לְעָם לְצִיִּֽים׃ atah ritzatzeta rashei livyatan titenenu maakhal leam letziyimThou didst crush the heads of leviathan, Thou gavest him to be food to the folk inhabiting the wilderness. טו15 אַתָּה בָקַעְתָּ מַעְיָן וָנָחַל אַתָּה הוֹבַשְׁתָּ נַהֲרוֹת אֵיתָֽן׃ atah vakata mayan vanachal atah hovashta naharot eitanThou didst cleave fountain and brook; Thou driedst up ever-flowing rivers. טז16 לְךָ יוֹם אַף־לְךָ לָיְלָה אַתָּה הֲכִינוֹתָ מָאוֹר וָשָֽׁמֶשׁ׃ lekha yom af-lekha laylah atah hakhinota maor vashameshThine is the day, Thine also the night; Thou hast established luminary and sun. יז17 אַתָּה הִצַּבְתָּ כָּל־גְּבוּלוֹת אָרֶץ קַיִץ וָחֹרֶף אַתָּה יְצַרְתָּם׃ atah hitzaveta kal-gevulot aretz kayitz vachoref atah yetzartamThou hast set all the borders of the earth; Thou hast made summer and winter. יח18 זְכָר־זֹאת אוֹיֵב חֵרֵף ׀ יְיָ וְעַם נָבָל נִֽאֲצוּ שְׁמֶֽךָ׃ zekhar-zot oyev cheref ׀ Adonai veam naval niatzu shemekhaRemember this, how the enemy hath reproached HaShem, and how a base people have blasphemed Thy name. יט19 אַל־תִּתֵּן לְחַיַּת נֶפֶשׁ תּוֹרֶךָ חַיַּת עֲנִיֶּיךָ אַל־תִּשְׁכַּח לָנֶֽצַח׃ al-titen lechayat nefesh torekha chayat aniyeikha al-tishekach lanetzachO deliver not the soul of Thy turtle-dove unto the wild beast; forget not the life of Thy poor for ever. כ20 הַבֵּט לַבְּרִית כִּי מָלְאוּ מַחֲשַׁכֵּי־אֶרֶץ נְאוֹת חָמָֽס׃ habet labrit ki malu machashakei-eretz neot chamasLook upon the covenant; for the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence. כא21 אַל־יָשֹׁב דַּךְ נִכְלָם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן יְֽהַלְלוּ שְׁמֶֽךָ׃ al-yashov dakhe nikhlam ani veevyon yehallu shemekhaO let not the oppressed turn back in confusion; let the poor and needy praise Thy name. כב22 קוּמָה אֱלֹהִים רִיבָה רִיבֶךָ זְכֹר חֶרְפָּתְךָ מִנִּי־נָבָל כָּל־הַיּֽוֹם׃ kumah Elohim rivah rivekha zekhor cherpatekha mini-naval kal-hayomArise, O G-d, plead Thine own cause; remember Thy reproach all the day at the hand of the base man. כג23 אַל־תִּשְׁכַּח קוֹל צֹרְרֶיךָ שְׁאוֹן קָמֶיךָ עֹלֶה תָמִֽיד׃ al-tishekach kol tzorreikha sheon kameikha oleh tamidForget not the voice of Thine adversaries, the tumult of those that rise up against Thee which ascendeth continually.

A Psalm of Asaph, a Song. ב2 הוֹדִינוּ לְּךָ ׀ אֱֽלֹהִים הוֹדִינוּ וְקָרוֹב שְׁמֶךָ סִפְּרוּ נִפְלְאוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ hodinu lekha ׀ elohim hodinu vekarov shemekha sipru nifloteikhaWe give thanks unto Thee, O G-d, we give thanks, and Thy name is near; men tell of Thy wondrous works. ג3 כִּי אֶקַּח מוֹעֵד אֲנִי מֵישָׁרִים אֶשְׁפֹּֽט׃ ki ekach moed ani meisharim eshpot'When I take the appointed time, I Myself will judge with equity. ד4 נְֽמֹגִים אֶרֶץ וְכָל־יֹשְׁבֶיהָ אָנֹכִי תִכַּנְתִּי עַמּוּדֶיהָ סֶּֽלָה׃ nemogim eretz vekhal-yoshveiha anokhi tikaneti amudeiha selahWhen the earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved, I Myself establish the pillars of it.' Selah ה5 אָמַרְתִּי לַֽהוֹלְלִים אַל־תָּהֹלּוּ וְלָרְשָׁעִים אַל־תָּרִימוּ קָֽרֶן׃ amarti lahollim al-taholu velarshaim al-tarimu karenI say unto the arrogant: 'Deal not arrogantly'; and to the wicked: 'Lift not up the horn.' ו6 אַל־תָּרִימוּ לַמָּרוֹם קַרְנְכֶם תְּדַבְּרוּ בְצַוָּאר עָתָֽק׃ al-tarimu lamarom karnkhem tedabru vetzavar atakLift not up your horn on high; speak not insolence with a haughty neck. ז7 כִּי לֹא מִמּוֹצָא וּמִֽמַּעֲרָב וְלֹא מִמִּדְבַּר הָרִֽים׃ ki lo mimotza umimaarav velo mimidebar harimFor neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the wilderness, cometh lifting up. ח8 כִּֽי־אֱלֹהִים שֹׁפֵט זֶה יַשְׁפִּיל וְזֶה יָרִֽים׃ ki-Elohim shofet zeh yashpil vezeh yarimFor G-d is judge; He putteth down one, and lifteth up another. ט9 כִּי כוֹס בְּֽיַד־יְיָ וְיַיִן חָמַר ׀ מָלֵא מֶסֶךְ וַיַּגֵּר מִזֶּה אַךְ־שְׁמָרֶיהָ יִמְצוּ יִשְׁתּוּ כֹּל רִשְׁעֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃ ki khos beyad-Adonai veyayin chamar ׀ male mesekh vayager mizeh akh-shemareiha yimtzu yishtu kol rishei-aretzFor in the hand of HaShem there is a cup, with foaming wine, full of mixture, and He poureth out of the same; surely the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them. י10 וַאֲנִי אַגִּיד לְעֹלָם אֲזַמְּרָה לֵאלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹֽב׃ vaani agid leolam azamrah lelohei yaakovBut as for me, I will declare for ever, I will sing praises to the G-d of Jacob. יא11 וְכָל־קַרְנֵי רְשָׁעִים אֲגַדֵּעַ תְּרוֹמַמְנָה קַֽרְנוֹת צַדִּֽיק׃ vekhal-karnei reshaim agadea teromamnah karnot tzadikAll the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

A Psalm of Asaph, a Song. ב2 נוֹדָע בִּֽיהוּדָה אֱלֹהִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּדוֹל שְׁמֽוֹ׃ noda bihudah Elohim beyisrael gadol shemoIn Judah is G-d known; His name is great in Israel. ג3 וַיְהִי בְשָׁלֵם סֻכּוֹ וּמְעוֹנָתוֹ בְצִיּֽוֹן׃ vayhi veshalem suko umonato vetziyonIn Salem also is set His tabernacle, and His dwelling-place in Zion. ד4 שָׁמָּה שִׁבַּר רִשְׁפֵי־קָשֶׁת מָגֵן וְחֶרֶב וּמִלְחָמָה סֶֽלָה׃ shamah shibar rishfei-kashet magen vecherev umilchamah selahThere He broke the fiery shafts of the bow; the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah ה5 נָאוֹר אַתָּה אַדִּיר מֵֽהַרְרֵי־טָֽרֶף׃ naor atah adir meharrei-tarefGlorious art Thou and excellent, coming down from the mountains of prey. ו6 אֶשְׁתּוֹלְלוּ ׀ אַבִּירֵי לֵב נָמוּ שְׁנָתָם וְלֹא־מָצְאוּ כָל־אַנְשֵׁי־חַיִל יְדֵיהֶֽם׃ eshtollu ׀ abirei lev namu shenatam velo-matzu khal-anshei-chayil yedeihemThe stout-hearted are bereft of sense, they sleep their sleep; and none of the men of might have found their hands. ז7 מִגַּעֲרָתְךָ אֱלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב נִרְדָּם וְרֶכֶב וָסֽוּס׃ migaaratkha Elohei yaakov nirdam verekhev vasusAt Thy rebuke, O G-d of Jacob, they are cast into a dead sleep, the riders also and the horses. ח8 אַתָּה ׀ נוֹרָא אַתָּה וּמִֽי־יַעֲמֹד לְפָנֶיךָ מֵאָז אַפֶּֽךָ׃ atah ׀ nora atah umi-yaamod lefaneikha meaz apekhaThou, even Thou, art terrible; and who may stand in Thy sight when once Thou art angry? ט9 מִשָּׁמַיִם הִשְׁמַעְתָּ דִּין אֶרֶץ יָֽרְאָה וְשָׁקָֽטָה׃ mishamayim hishmata din eretz yarah veshakatahThou didst cause sentence to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, י10 בְּקוּם־לַמִּשְׁפָּט אֱלֹהִים לְהוֹשִׁיעַ כָּל־עַנְוֵי־אֶרֶץ סֶֽלָה׃ bekum-lamishepat Elohim lehoshiya kal-anvei-eretz selahWhen G-d arose to judgment, to save all the humble of the earth. Selah יא11 כִּֽי־חֲמַת אָדָם תּוֹדֶךָּ שְׁאֵרִית חֵמֹת תַּחְגֹּֽר׃ ki-chamat adam todeka sheerit chemot tachegorSurely the wrath of man shall praise Thee; the residue of wrath shalt Thou gird upon Thee. יב12 נִֽדֲרוּ וְשַׁלְּמוּ לַיהוָה אֱֽלֹהֵיכֶם כָּל־סְבִיבָיו יוֹבִילוּ שַׁי לַמּוֹרָֽא׃ nidaru veshalmu layhvah eloheikhem kal-sevivayv yovilu shay lamoraVow, and pay unto HaShem your G-d; let all that are round about Him bring presents unto Him that is to be feared; יג13 יִבְצֹר רוּחַ נְגִידִים נוֹרָא לְמַלְכֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃ yivtzor rucha negidim nora lemalkhei-aretzHe minisheth the spirit of princes; He is terrible to the kings of the earth.

A Psalm of Asaph. ב2 קוֹלִי אֶל־אֱלֹהִים וְאֶצְעָקָה קוֹלִי אֶל־אֱלֹהִים וְהַאֲזִין אֵלָֽי׃ koli el-Elohim veetzakah koli el-Elohim vehaazin elayI will lift up my voice unto G-d, an cry; I will lift up my voice unto G-d, that He may give ear unto me. ג3 בְּיוֹם צָרָתִי אֲדֹנָי דָּרָשְׁתִּי יָדִי ׀ לַיְלָה נִגְּרָה וְלֹא תָפוּג מֵאֲנָה הִנָּחֵם נַפְשִֽׁי׃ beyom tzarati Adonai darashti yadi ׀ laylah nigrah velo tafug meanah hinachem nafshiIn the day of my trouble I seek the L-rd; with my hand uplifted, mine eye streameth in the night without ceasing; my soul refuseth to be comforted. ד4 אֶזְכְּרָה אֱלֹהִים וְאֶֽהֱמָיָה אָשִׂיחָה ׀ וְתִתְעַטֵּף רוּחִי סֶֽלָה׃ ezkrah Elohim veehemayah asichah ׀ vetitatef ruchi selahWhen I think thereon, O G-d, I must moan; when I muse thereon, my spirit fainteth. Selah ה5 אָחַזְתָּ שְׁמֻרוֹת עֵינָי נִפְעַמְתִּי וְלֹא אֲדַבֵּֽר׃ achazta shemurot einay nifamti velo adaberThou holdest fast the lids of mine eyes; I am troubled, and cannot speak. ו6 חִשַּׁבְתִּי יָמִים מִקֶּדֶם שְׁנוֹת עוֹלָמִֽים׃ chishaveti yamim mikedem shenot olamimI have pondered the days of old, the years of ancient times. ז7 אֶֽזְכְּרָה נְגִינָתִי בַּלָּיְלָה עִם־לְבָבִי אָשִׂיחָה וַיְחַפֵּשׂ רוּחִֽי׃ ezkrah neginati balayelah im-levavi asichah vaychapes ruchiIn the night I will call to remembrance my song; I will commune with mine own heart; and my spirit maketh diligent search: ח8 הַֽלְעוֹלָמִים יִזְנַח ׀ אֲדֹנָי וְלֹֽא־יֹסִיף לִרְצוֹת עֽוֹד׃ halolamim yiznach ׀ Adonai velo-yosif lirtzot od'Will the L-rd cast off for ever? and will He be favourable no more? ט9 הֶאָפֵס לָנֶצַח חַסְדּוֹ גָּמַר אֹמֶר לְדֹר וָדֹֽר׃ heafes lanetzach chasdo gamar omer ledor vadorIs His mercy clean gone for ever? Is His promise come to an end for evermore? י10 הֲשָׁכַח חַנּוֹת אֵל אִם־קָפַץ בְּאַף רַחֲמָיו סֶֽלָה׃ hashakhach chanot el im-kafatz beaf rachamayv selahHath G-d forgotten to be gracious? Hath He in anger shut up his compassions?' Selah יא11 וָאֹמַר חַלּוֹתִי הִיא שְׁנוֹת יְמִין עֶלְיֽוֹן׃ vaomar chaloti hi shenot yemin elyonAnd I say: 'This is my weakness, that the right hand of the Most High could change. יב12 אזכיר מַֽעַלְלֵי־יָהּ כִּֽי־אֶזְכְּרָה מִקֶּדֶם פִּלְאֶֽךָ׃ zkhyr maallei-yah ki-ezkrah mikedem pileekhaI will make mention of the deeds of HaShem; yea, I will remember Thy wonders of old. יג13 וְהָגִיתִי בְכָל־פָּעֳלֶךָ וּֽבַעֲלִילוֹתֶיךָ אָשִֽׂיחָה׃ vehagiti vekhal-paolekha uvaaliloteikha asichahI will meditate also upon all Thy work, and muse on Thy doings.' יד14 אֱלֹהִים בַּקֹּדֶשׁ דַּרְכֶּךָ מִי־אֵל גָּדוֹל כֵּֽאלֹהִֽים׃ Elohim bakodesh darekekha mi-el gadol kelohimO G-d, Thy way is in holiness; who is a great god like unto G-d? טו15 אַתָּה הָאֵל עֹשֵׂה פֶלֶא הוֹדַעְתָּ בָעַמִּים עֻזֶּֽךָ׃ atah hael oseh fele hodata vaamim uzekhaThou art the G-d that doest wonders; Thou hast made known Thy strength among the peoples. טז16 גָּאַלְתָּ בִּזְרוֹעַ עַמֶּךָ בְּנֵי־יַעֲקֹב וְיוֹסֵף סֶֽלָה׃ gaalta bizeroa amekha benei-yaakov veyosef selahThou hast with Thine arm redeemed Thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah יז17 רָאוּךָ מַּיִם ׀ אֱֽלֹהִים רָאוּךָ מַּיִם יָחִילוּ אַף יִרְגְּזוּ תְהֹמֽוֹת׃ raukha mayim ׀ elohim raukha mayim yachilu af yirgzu tehomotThe waters saw Thee, O G-d; the waters saw Thee, they were in pain; the depths also trembled. יח18 זֹרְמוּ מַיִם ׀ עָבוֹת קוֹל נָתְנוּ שְׁחָקִים אַף־חֲצָצֶיךָ יִתְהַלָּֽכוּ׃ zormu mayim ׀ avot kol natnu shechakim af-chatzatzeikha yithalakhuThe clouds flooded forth waters; the skies sent out a sound; Thine arrows also went abroad. יט19 קוֹל רַעַמְךָ ׀ בַּגַּלְגַּל הֵאִירוּ בְרָקִים תֵּבֵל רָגְזָה וַתִּרְעַשׁ הָאָֽרֶץ׃ kol raamkha ׀ bagalegal heiru verakim tevel ragzah vatireash haaretzThe voice of Thy thunder was in the whirlwind; the lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. כ20 בַּיָּם דַּרְכֶּךָ ושביליך בְּמַיִם רַבִּים וְעִקְּבוֹתֶיךָ לֹא נֹדָֽעוּ׃ bayam darekekha vshvylykh bemayim rabim veikvoteikha lo nodauThy way was in the sea, and Thy path in the great waters, and Thy footsteps were not known. כא21 נָחִיתָ כַצֹּאן עַמֶּךָ בְּֽיַד־מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹֽן׃ nachita khatzon amekha beyad-mosheh veaharonThou didst lead Thy people like a flock, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

א1 מַשְׂכִּיל לְאָסָף הַאֲזִינָה עַמִּי תּוֹרָתִי הַטּוּ אָזְנְכֶם לְאִמְרֵי־פִֽי׃ maskil leasaf haazinah ami torati hatu aznkhem leimrei-fiMaschil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth. ב2 אֶפְתְּחָה בְמָשָׁל פִּי אַבִּיעָה חִידוֹת מִנִּי־קֶֽדֶם׃ eftchah vemashal pi abiyah chidot mini-kedemI will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter dark sayings concerning days of old; ג3 אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְנוּ וַנֵּדָעֵם וַאֲבוֹתֵינוּ סִפְּרוּ־לָֽנוּ׃ asher shamanu vanedaem vaavoteinu sipru-lanuThat which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us, ד4 לֹא נְכַחֵד ׀ מִבְּנֵיהֶם לְדוֹר אַחֲרוֹן מְֽסַפְּרִים תְּהִלּוֹת יְיָ וֶעֱזוּזוֹ וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו אֲשֶׁר עָשָֽׂה׃ lo nekhached ׀ mibneihem ledor acharon mesaprim tehilot Adonai veezuzo veniflotayv asher asahWe will not hide from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of HaShem, and His strength, and His wondrous works that He hath done. ה5 וַיָּקֶם עֵדוּת ׀ בְּֽיַעֲקֹב וְתוֹרָה שָׂם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֶת־אֲבוֹתֵינוּ לְהוֹדִיעָם לִבְנֵיהֶֽם׃ vayakem edut ׀ beyaakov vetorah sam beyisrael asher tzivah et-avoteinu lehodiyam livneihemFor He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children; ו6 לְמַעַן יֵדְעוּ ׀ דּוֹר אַחֲרוֹן בָּנִים יִוָּלֵדוּ יָקֻמוּ וִֽיסַפְּרוּ לִבְנֵיהֶֽם׃ lemaan yedu ׀ dor acharon banim yivaledu yakumu visapru livneihemThat the generation to come might know them, even the children that should be born; who should arise and tell them to their children, ז7 וְיָשִׂימוּ בֵֽאלֹהִים כִּסְלָם וְלֹא יִשְׁכְּחוּ מַֽעַלְלֵי־אֵל וּמִצְוֺתָיו יִנְצֹֽרוּ׃ veyasimu velohim kiselam velo yishkchu maallei-el umitzotayv yintzoruThat they might put their confidence in G-d, and not forget the works of G-d, but keep His commandments; ח8 וְלֹא יִהְיוּ ׀ כַּאֲבוֹתָם דּוֹר סוֹרֵר וּמֹרֶה דּוֹר לֹא־הֵכִין לִבּוֹ וְלֹא־נֶאֶמְנָה אֶת־אֵל רוּחֽוֹ׃ velo yihyu ׀ kaavotam dor sorer umoreh dor lo-hekhin libo velo-neemnah et-el ruchoAnd might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with G-d. ט9 בְּֽנֵי־אֶפְרַיִם נוֹשְׁקֵי רוֹמֵי־קָשֶׁת הָפְכוּ בְּיוֹם קְרָֽב׃ benei-efrayim noshkei romei-kashet hafkhu beyom keravThe children of Ephraim were as archers handling the bow, that turned back in the day of battle. י10 לֹא שָׁמְרוּ בְּרִית אֱלֹהִים וּבְתוֹרָתוֹ מֵאֲנוּ לָלֶֽכֶת׃ lo shamru berit Elohim uvtorato meanu lalekhetThey kept not the covenant of G-d, and refused to walk in His law; יא11 וַיִּשְׁכְּחוּ עֲלִילוֹתָיו וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו אֲשֶׁר הֶרְאָֽם׃ vayishekchu alilotayv veniflotayv asher heramAnd they forgot His doings, and His wondrous works that He had shown them. יב12 נֶגֶד אֲבוֹתָם עָשָׂה פֶלֶא בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם שְׂדֵה־צֹֽעַן׃ neged avotam asah fele beeretz mitzrayim sedeh-tzoanMarvellous things did He in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. יג13 בָּקַע יָם וַיַּֽעֲבִירֵם וַֽיַּצֶּב־מַיִם כְּמוֹ־נֵֽד׃ baka yam vayaavirem vayatzev-mayim kemo-nedHe cleaved the sea, and caused them to pass through; and He made the waters to stand as a heap. יד14 וַיַּנְחֵם בֶּעָנָן יוֹמָם וְכָל־הַלַּיְלָה בְּאוֹר אֵֽשׁ׃ vayanechem beanan yomam vekhal-halayelah beor eshBy day also He led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. טו15 יְבַקַּע צֻרִים בַּמִּדְבָּר וַיַּשְׁקְ כִּתְהֹמוֹת רַבָּֽה׃ yevaka tzurim bamidebar vayashek kitehomot rabahHe cleaved rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the great deep. טז16 וַיּוֹצִא נוֹזְלִים מִסָּלַע וַיּוֹרֶד כַּנְּהָרוֹת מָֽיִם׃ vayotzi nozlim misala vayored kaneharot mayimHe brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers. יז17 וַיּוֹסִיפוּ עוֹד לַחֲטֹא־לוֹ לַֽמְרוֹת עֶלְיוֹן בַּצִּיָּֽה׃ vayosifu od lachato-lo lamrot elyon batziyahYet went they on still to sin against Him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert. יח18 וַיְנַסּוּ־אֵל בִּלְבָבָם לִֽשְׁאָל־אֹכֶל לְנַפְשָֽׁם׃ vaynasu-el bilevavam lishal-okhel lenafshamAnd they tried G-d in their heart by asking food for their craving. יט19 וַֽיְדַבְּרוּ בֵּֽאלֹהִים אָמְרוּ הֲיוּכַל אֵל לַעֲרֹךְ שֻׁלְחָן בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃ vaydabru belohim amru hayukhal el laarokh shulchan bamidebarYea, they spoke against G-d; they said: 'Can G-d prepare a table in the wilderness? כ20 הֵן הִכָּה־צוּר ׀ וַיָּזוּבוּ מַיִם וּנְחָלִים יִשְׁטֹפוּ הֲגַם־לֶחֶם יוּכַל תֵּת אִם־יָכִין שְׁאֵר לְעַמּֽוֹ׃ hen hikah-tzur ׀ vayazuvu mayim unchalim yishtofu hagam-lechem yukhal tet im-yakhin sheer leamoBehold, He smote the rock, that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed; can He give bread also? or will He provide flesh for His people?' כא21 לָכֵן ׀ שָׁמַע יְיָ וַֽיִּתְעַבָּר וְאֵשׁ נִשְּׂקָה בְיַעֲקֹב וְגַם־אַף עָלָה בְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ lakhen ׀ shama Adonai vayiteabar veesh niskah veyaakov vegam-af alah veyisraelTherefore HaShem heard, and was wroth; and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also went up against Israel; כב22 כִּי לֹא הֶאֱמִינוּ בֵּאלֹהִים וְלֹא בָטְחוּ בִּֽישׁוּעָתֽוֹ׃ ki lo heeminu belohim velo vatchu bishuatoBecause they believed not in G-d, and trusted not in His salvation. כג23 וַיְצַו שְׁחָקִים מִמָּעַל וְדַלְתֵי שָׁמַיִם פָּתָֽח׃ vaytzav shechakim mimaal vedaltei shamayim patachAnd He commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven; כד24 וַיַּמְטֵר עֲלֵיהֶם מָן לֶאֱכֹל וּדְגַן־שָׁמַיִם נָתַן לָֽמוֹ׃ vayameter aleihem man leekhol udgan-shamayim natan lamoAnd He caused manna to rain upon them for food, and gave them of the corn of heaven. כה25 לֶחֶם אַבִּירִים אָכַל אִישׁ צֵידָה שָׁלַח לָהֶם לָשֹֽׂבַע׃ lechem abirim akhal ish tzeidah shalach lahem lasovaMan did eat the bread of the mighty; He sent them provisions to the full. כו26 יַסַּע קָדִים בַּשָּׁמָיִם וַיְנַהֵג בְּעֻזּוֹ תֵימָֽן׃ yasa kadim bashamayim vaynaheg beuzo teimanHe caused the east wind to set forth in heaven; and by His power He brought on the south wind. כז27 וַיַּמְטֵר עֲלֵיהֶם כֶּעָפָר שְׁאֵר וּֽכְחוֹל יַמִּים עוֹף כָּנָֽף׃ vayameter aleihem keafar sheer ukhchol yamim of kanafHe caused flesh also to rain upon them as the dust, and winged fowl as the sand of the seas; כח28 וַיַּפֵּל בְּקֶרֶב מַחֲנֵהוּ סָבִיב לְמִשְׁכְּנֹתָֽיו׃ vayapel bekerev machanehu saviv lemishknotayvAnd He let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their dwellings. כט29 וַיֹּאכְלוּ וַיִּשְׂבְּעוּ מְאֹד וְתַֽאֲוָתָם יָבִא לָהֶֽם׃ vayokhlu vayisebu meod vetaavatam yavi lahemSo they did eat, and were well filled; and He gave them that which they craved. ל30 לֹא־זָרוּ מִתַּאֲוָתָם עוֹד אָכְלָם בְּפִיהֶֽם׃ lo-zaru mitaavatam od akhlam befihemThey were not estranged from their craving, their food was yet in their mouths, לא31 וְאַף אֱלֹהִים ׀ עָלָה בָהֶם וַֽיַּהֲרֹג בְּמִשְׁמַנֵּיהֶם וּבַחוּרֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הִכְרִֽיעַ׃ veaf Elohim ׀ alah vahem vayaharog bemishmaneihem uvachurei yisrael hikhriyaWhen the anger of G-d went up against them, and slew of the lustieth among them, and smote down the young men of Israel. לב32 בְּכָל־זֹאת חָֽטְאוּ־עוֹד וְלֹֽא־הֶאֱמִינוּ בְּנִפְלְאוֹתָֽיו׃ bekhal-zot chatu-od velo-heeminu beniflotayvFor all this they sinned still, and believed not in His wondrous works. לג33 וַיְכַל־בַּהֶבֶל יְמֵיהֶם וּשְׁנוֹתָם בַּבֶּהָלָֽה׃ vaykhal-bahevel yemeihem ushnotam babehalahTherefore He ended their days as a breath, and their years in terror. לד34 אִם־הֲרָגָם וּדְרָשׁוּהוּ וְשָׁבוּ וְשִֽׁחֲרוּ־אֵֽל׃ im-haragam udrashuhu veshavu veshicharu-elWhen He slew them, then they would inquire after Him, and turn back and seek G-d earnestly. לה35 וַֽיִּזְכְּרוּ כִּֽי־אֱלֹהִים צוּרָם וְאֵל עֶלְיוֹן גֹּאֲלָֽם׃ vayizekru ki-Elohim tzuram veel elyon goalamAnd they remembered that G-d was their Rock, and the Most High G-d their redeemer. לו36 וַיְפַתּוּהוּ בְּפִיהֶם וּבִלְשׁוֹנָם יְכַזְּבוּ־לֽוֹ׃ vayfatuhu befihem uvilshonam yekhazvu-loBut they beguiled Him with their mouth, and lied unto Him with their tongue. לז37 וְלִבָּם לֹא־נָכוֹן עִמּוֹ וְלֹא נֶאֶמְנוּ בִּבְרִיתֽוֹ׃ velibam lo-nakhon imo velo neemnu biveritoFor their heart was not stedfast with Him, neither were they faithful in His covenant. לח38 וְהוּא רַחוּם ׀ יְכַפֵּר עָוֺן וְֽלֹא־יַשְׁחִית וְהִרְבָּה לְהָשִׁיב אַפּוֹ וְלֹֽא־יָעִיר כָּל־חֲמָתֽוֹ׃ vehu rachum ׀ yekhaper aon velo-yashchit vehirbah lehashiv apo velo-yair kal-chamatoBut He, being full of compassion, forgiveth iniquity, and destroyeth not; yea, many a time doth He turn His anger away, and doth not stir up all His wrath. לט39 וַיִּזְכֹּר כִּי־בָשָׂר הֵמָּה רוּחַ הוֹלֵךְ וְלֹא יָשֽׁוּב׃ vayizekor ki-vasar hemah rucha holekh velo yashuvSo He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again. מ40 כַּמָּה יַמְרוּהוּ בַמִּדְבָּר יַעֲצִיבוּהוּ בִּֽישִׁימֽוֹן׃ kamah yamruhu vamidebar yaatzivuhu bishimonHow oft did they rebel against Him in the wilderness, and grieve Him in the desert! מא41 וַיָּשׁוּבוּ וַיְנַסּוּ אֵל וּקְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל הִתְווּ׃ vayashuvu vaynasu el ukdosh yisrael hitvuAnd still again they tried G-d, and set bounds to the Holy One of Israel. מב42 לֹא־זָכְרוּ אֶת־יָדוֹ יוֹם אֲֽשֶׁר־פָּדָם מִנִּי־צָֽר׃ lo-zakhru et-yado yom asher-padam mini-tzarThey remembered not His hand, nor the day when He redeemed them from the adversary. מג43 אֲשֶׁר־שָׂם בְּמִצְרַיִם אֹֽתוֹתָיו וּמוֹפְתָיו בִּשְׂדֵה־צֹֽעַן׃ asher-sam bemitzrayim ototayv umoftayv bisedeh-tzoanHow He set His signs in Egypt, and His wonders in the field of Zoan; מד44 וַיַּהֲפֹךְ לְדָם יְאֹרֵיהֶם וְנֹזְלֵיהֶם בַּל־יִשְׁתָּיֽוּן׃ vayahafokh ledam yeoreihem venozleihem bal-yishtayunAnd turned their rivers into blood, so that they could not drink their streams. מה45 יְשַׁלַּח בָּהֶם עָרֹב וַיֹּאכְלֵם וּצְפַרְדֵּעַ וַתַּשְׁחִיתֵֽם׃ yeshalach bahem arov vayokhlem utzfardea vatashechitemHe sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. מו46 וַיִּתֵּן לֶחָסִיל יְבוּלָם וִֽיגִיעָם לָאַרְבֶּֽה׃ vayiten lechasil yevulam vigiyam laarbehHe gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labour unto the locust. מז47 יַהֲרֹג בַּבָּרָד גַּפְנָם וְשִׁקְמוֹתָם בַּֽחֲנָמַֽל׃ yaharog babarad gafenam veshikmotam bachanamalHe destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore-trees with frost. מח48 וַיַּסְגֵּר לַבָּרָד בְּעִירָם וּמִקְנֵיהֶם לָרְשָׁפִֽים׃ vayaseger labarad beiram umikneihem larshafimHe gave over their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to fiery bolts. מט49 יְשַׁלַּח־בָּם ׀ חֲרוֹן אַפּוֹ עֶבְרָה וָזַעַם וְצָרָה מִשְׁלַחַת מַלְאֲכֵי רָעִֽים׃ yeshalach-bam ׀ charon apo evrah vazaam vetzarah mishlachat malakhei raimHe sent forth upon them the fierceness of His anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, a sending of messengers of evil. נ50 יְפַלֵּס נָתִיב לְאַפּוֹ לֹא־חָשַׂךְ מִמָּוֶת נַפְשָׁם וְחַיָּתָם לַדֶּבֶר הִסְגִּֽיר׃ yefales nativ leapo lo-chasakh mimavet nafsham vechayatam ladever hisgirHe levelled a path for His anger; He spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; נא51 וַיַּךְ כָּל־בְּכוֹר בְּמִצְרָיִם רֵאשִׁית אוֹנִים בְּאָהֳלֵי־חָֽם׃ vayakhe kal-bekhor bemitzrayim reshit onim beaholei-chamAnd smote all the first-born in Egypt, the first-fruits of their strength in the tents of Ham; נב52 וַיַּסַּע כַּצֹּאן עַמּוֹ וַֽיְנַהֲגֵם כַּעֵדֶר בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃ vayasa katzon amo vaynahagem kaeder bamidebarBut He made His own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. נג53 וַיַּנְחֵם לָבֶטַח וְלֹא פָחָדוּ וְאֶת־אוֹיְבֵיהֶם כִּסָּה הַיָּֽם׃ vayanechem lavetach velo fachadu veet-oyveihem kisah hayamAnd He led them safely, and they feared not; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. כד24 וְכַתּוֹתִי מִפָּנָיו צָרָיו וּמְשַׂנְאָיו אֶגּֽוֹף׃ vekhatoti mipanayv tzarayv umsanayv egofAnd I will beat to pieces his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him. כה25 וֶֽאֶֽמוּנָתִי וְחַסְדִּי עִמּוֹ וּבִשְׁמִי תָּרוּם קַרְנֽוֹ׃ veemunati vechasdi imo uvishmi tarum karnoBut My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him;
